Echoes of the Orisa is an ambitious narrative that merges the vibrant essence of Yoruba mythology with the modern day . At its core, the story delves into the journey of Lola, a young woman grappling with her sense of identity, purpose, and the weight of her ancestral legacy. As she uncovers her connection to her powerful ancestor, Fajuyigbe, and the divine presence of Oduduwa, she embarks on a transformative quest that bridges the past with the present, exploring what it means to embrace one’s heritage in a modern world. The film series beautifully combines traditional storytelling with cutting-edge technology, utilizing 3D animation tools such as Blender, Houdini, and Unreal Engine 5 to create visually stunning scenes and an experience that highlights the fluidity between worlds—both spiritual and physical. Through Lola's eyes, audiences are invited to reflect on the themes of cultural heritage, the passage of knowledge across generations, and the echoes of forgotten histories that continue to shape the present.

3d Artist and Motion Designer, Tolulope Olusesan loves coming up with abstract and surreal artworks that capture religious interpretations and mythical tales. Olusesan writes about his recent project titled ‘The Echoes of the Orisha’, “this is a series that explores and reinterprets the Yoruba myths using art and movies. It includes a set of art pieces and a movie series that show the Yoruba gods in a new way, while also telling a story about reconnecting with our cultural background and traditions. Right now, there are two art pieces in the series, and an animated short film is being made that will be released soon.”

With Echoes of the Orisa, the aim is not just to tell a story but to craft an immersive experience that celebrates the rich cultural tapestry of Yoruba mythology and folklore while embedding it into an modern setting in a way that has never been attempted before. A redefinition and reclamation of how our culture, mythology and heritage is presented not just to a global audience but to we ourselves as Nigerians. The project also seeks to challenge the perception of African mythology in contemporary cinema by blending tradition with innovation.
