This new typeface by Seun Badejo combines centuries-old African mystique with cutting-edge type design. Seun led a specialized team of language and copywriting specialists in creating Agụ Display, a groundbreaking typeface for Google Fonts based on the Nsibidi writing system, while collaborating with and receiving guidance from Google Fonts’ internal type design team, and pioneering a first-of-its-kind morphing substitution variable font axis.
Recently, Seun celebrated a monumental achievement: the release of his first typeface, Agụ Display, in collaboration with Google Fonts (@googlefonts). Agụ Display is a decorative, rounded, sans-serif display font, Agụ Display features a morphing substitution axis, giving its letters a dynamic, dance-like quality. Drawing inspiration from the Nsibidi symbols of West Africa—a writing system steeped in the history of Nigeria’s Cross River region and extending into Cameroon—Agụ Display injects ancient heritage with modern design.
Agụ Display is now live and available on Google Fonts. You can also explore the typeface on the dedicated website built by Studio Null at https://agudisplay.com/.
