Emmanuel Eberenna Ugboaja, a graphic designer and digital artist, uses collage to focus on issues that resonate with Nigerians today. Through cut-outs and abstract shapes, Emmanuel creates layers of meaning, drawing attention to the challenges Nigerians face daily.

“Earlier into the year, I honestly wanted to show what I could do, and it was a case of ‘creating what I would like to see in the world’. But I didn’t want to go down the regular graphic design route. Earlier into my journey as a designer I had experimented with collages and mixed media, so taking a cue from early Russian constructivism (which has a huge influence on modern graphic design), and with Nigeria being in a sort of weird place just after the 2023 elections, I thought it would be fun to highlight some of the issues we faced everyday, with cut outs of headlines from the newspapers.”
