Morenike Olusanya, widely known as Renike, is a an award-winning visual artist and co-founder of Bawsty, Renike has carved out a prestigious niche as a book cover artist for global publishing giants like HarperCollins, Penguin Random House, and Scholastic. Her portfolio is distinguished by a commitment to the "softness" of Black women—a direct challenge to the "strong Black woman" stereotype—portraying her subjects as young people existing, growing, and experiencing the world in all its nuance.

Technically, Renike’s approach to book covers is immersive and research-driven. When tasked with historical themes, such as the cover for Keith Richards’ Which of Your Sons?, she dives deep into the manuscript and the era, using her art to document gravity-laden events like the Enugu Colliery Massacre and the Iva Valley Shooting.

Renike’s process is a blend of digital and traditional media, utilizing tools ranging from the iPad Pro and Wacom Cintiq to charcoal and acrylics. She describes her method as starting with "daydreaming," followed by a rigorous gathering of resources and references. This preparation allows her to capture specific personalities through facial expressions and style, often giving each character on a cover a unique identity that readers can attach to the story. For the Lagos Meet community, Renike’s journey from the University of Lagos to being a Future Awards Africa winner is a testament to the power of continuous learning.
